My visit to the Jungle Coaster in Pongyang Adventure Park, Chiang Mai was one of those spontaneous decisions that turned out to be absolutely worth it. We hired a red songthaew (Rod Daeng) from the city, and the drive up itself was quite an experience — winding roads, cool mountain breeze, and lush greenery on both sides. It felt like a small adventure even before the main one began.
The Jungle Coaster is basically a single-rail alpine coaster that lets you control your own speed. You sit on a small cart that runs down the track through the forest. What surprised me most was that, the coaster immediately went down after the start — fast, fun, and full of adrenaline. The climb only happened at the end of the track, when it slowed down automatically and pulled itself up to the station again.
On my first ride, I sat in between my father and my sisters. My younger brother was the first one to go — fearless as always — followed by my eldest sister, my father, then me, and behind me were my other sister and my sister-in-law who shared a cart. Both of them were not fans of roller coasters, so they took things slow. My father had to ease up on his speed because my eldest sister in front of him was going rather cautiously. That kind of created a buffer between each of us, and I ended up cruising at a moderate pace instead of going full speed. Still, the feeling of gliding down through the forest with cool air brushing against my face was such a thrill.
But since the first round felt a bit “controlled,” I decided I wasn’t done yet. I wanted the full experience — fast, wild, and uninterrupted. So my brother and I, we both went for a second round. This time, I didn’t pull the brake even once. I let gravity do its thing, and wow — it was exhilarating! The twists, the dips, and those quick turns made my heart race in the best way possible. I could hear the faint echoes of laughter and excitement from the others below, and for a few minutes, it was just me, the track, and the sound of the wind rushing past.
When I finally reached the top again, I couldn’t stop smiling. That second ride gave me exactly what I was hoping for — pure, carefree fun. I think that’s what makes the Jungle Coaster so special; it’s not just about speed, but about enjoying that freedom to control your own adventure. Whether you go slow to enjoy the scenery or let loose for the thrill, it’s the kind of activity that makes you feel alive.
If you’re planning a trip to Chiang Mai, I definitely recommend taking a ride at the Jungle Coaster in Pongyang Adventure Park. You can pair it with nearby attractions or just make it a half-day trip from the city. It’s family-friendly, exciting, and offers something for everyone — from the cautious riders to the thrill seekers. Just don’t forget to hold on tight and enjoy every moment of the ride!
