During my trip to Chiang Mai, one of the places that completely stole my heart was Chom Café, a garden-style café that felt like a hidden tropical paradise. From the moment I stepped inside, I was surrounded by lush greenery, soft mist, and the soothing sound of flowing water from fountains and tiny streams. It was like stepping into a calm rainforest — cool, refreshing, and almost magical.
Everywhere I looked, there was something beautiful to take in — vines curling around wooden arches, koi fish gliding through ponds, and sunlight peeking through layers of green leaves. The whole place feels alive, and even though it’s quite popular, the layout makes it feel private. Dining areas are spread out across different sections, with some open-air corners by the water and others enclosed in glass, allowing you to enjoy the garden view in air-conditioned comfort.
Before ordering, I asked the staff about halal options. They were very polite and helpful, immediately explaining which items were suitable for Muslim guests. Since the main dishes aren’t halal, I decided to go for something light — a raspberry sparkling drink and a lemon tart. The combination was perfect: the tart had a buttery crust with a bright, zesty filling, while the drink was refreshing with just the right touch of sweetness. It felt like the ideal treat to enjoy on a warm Chiang Mai afternoon.
After finishing my dessert, I wandered around the garden to take photos. Every corner of Chom Café looked like it belonged in a travel magazine — stone paths winding around ponds, little bridges, and plants growing in all directions. I had planned to take some OOTD shots, but I couldn’t help laughing when I realized my outfit didn’t quite work that day. I wore green — which turned out to be a mistake — because I blended so well into the background that I almost disappeared into the scenery! It was still fun though; the surroundings were so naturally stunning that it didn’t matter.
Despite that, the visit felt incredibly peaceful. The sound of running water and the cool breeze made it one of those places where you can just sit quietly, take a slow sip of your drink, and feel your thoughts settle. It’s hard to believe a spot this tranquil exists just about 20 minutes away from Chiang Mai’s busy city center.
For Muslim travellers, Chom Café is definitely worth including in your itinerary. You might not be able to try the full menu, but their desserts and drinks are safe and satisfying. More than that, the café itself is an experience — a refreshing break surrounded by greenery and calm. It’s the kind of place that lingers in your memory long after you’ve left, not just because of the photos you take, but because of how peaceful it makes you feel.
